カフェは歴史的に残る出来事の起こる場であり、コーヒー豆の輸送は国を超えた繋がりをもたらしました。

カフェはいつでもコーヒーを飲むだけの場所を超えた存在で、コーヒーカップはいわばコミュニケーションを運ぶ器ともいえます。

オーストラリアの先住民の言葉のひとつ、ワダウルング語で「MIA MIA」とは家族や友人、通りがかった人などが集うシェルターとして建てられた小屋をいいます。

東京の居心地良くこじんまりとしたエリア、東長崎にMIA MIAはそういったホスピタリティ溢れる空間を作りたいと考えています。

オーナーの理恵とヴォーンは、日本とオーストラリアという２つの全く異なる文化の中で育ちましたが、お互いの経験と価値観を共有しています。

理恵は居酒屋で、ヴォーンはシアターで小さな頃からの時間を過ごし、つながりを生む空間を育むことの大切さを身をもって感じてきました。

カフェがコミュニティの中で果たす役割はとても大きいと思っています。

カフェは知識を吸収する場であり、文化を交換する空間、そして社会の多様性を無視せず、育み、醸造する地域のシェルターです。

MIA MIAは昼間はコーヒーと軽食をお出しし、夜にはバーになるのですが、ただの町のコーヒー屋さんではありません。ここは、出会い、会話し、コミュニティイベントが行われ、キュレーションされた小さなアートディスプレイがあって、珍しいレコードが置いてある、そんな場所です。

そんなことすべてを行いつつも、MIA MIAはやっぱり「カフェ」なのです。

歴史的なコーヒーの文化の延長線上にある、もっとも謙虚で純粋な意味での「カフェ」。

Coffee is where mornings start and how friendships form.

Cafes have housed history-defining revolutions, and international connections have been made through the exchange of coffee beans. 

Throughout human history, the cafe has always been much more than just a place to drink. And the coffee cup, a vessel for communication.

In Wada Wurrung language, a 'mia mia' is a hut built as a gathering shelter for family, friends, and passersby. 

Located in the cozy Tokyo neighborhood of Higashi Nagasaki, cafe Mia Mia wants to extend this same hospitality. 

Owners Rie and Vaughan were raised in two very different cultures, her Japan, him Australia, but they share mutual experiences and outlooks.

Rie grew up in an izakaya, Vaughan grew up in a theatre; from childhood, they both learned the importance of fostering spaces where connections form.

They understand the vital role the cafe plays in a community; it's a space to absorb knowledge and exchange culture, it's a social hive that doesn't just defy social diversity, but thrives on it. 

Serving food and coffee by day and transforming into a bar at night, Mia Mia is more than just a coffee shop. It's a space to meet, chat, hold social events, admire small curated art displays, and flick through rare vinyl records.

While it does all that, Mia Mia is still a 'cafe' in the most humble of and pure of terms, it's an extension of this unifying, history spanning culture of coffee.
